Here's what you'll need:
- Applesauce
- Food Saver (or something similar)
- Roll of Food Saver make-your-own size bag
- Spoon
- Funnel (I used the top of a plastic water bottle)
- Scissors
First, cut a length of bag as long as the heating strip on your Food Saver
Seal one long open edge.
Decide how wide you want each pouch of food. Bearing in mind that you'll need to seal each edge, mark off where you'd like to cut each strip.
Cut the first one and seal the long side of it. Now three sides of it should be sealed off.
Using your funnel (or bottle top), fill the pouch almost to the top with applesauce.
Press out the air and seal the top.
I haven't mastered the art of using the vacuum sealer on liquids or semi-liquids. If you want to use this for long term storage in the freezer, you could make them and set them open-end up in the freezer to solidify the applesauce. Once they're frozen, then vacuum and seal the tubes. I knew ours weren't going to last that long, I just liked the idea of having something we could use on the go. I did put them in the freezer though, that way the Snickerdoodle had cold applesauce at lunchtime at pre-k.
